Scott Pilgrim is a comic book. They are making a movie adaption. Now they are making a video game to coincide with said movie. This game is a brawler. Are you frightened yet? Don’t be. Why? Because they seem to be doing everything right.

The Scott Pilgrim comic relies heavily on video game inspiration, and you can tell the author, Bryan Lee O’Malley, grew up with them. For example, the seven evil exes Scott has to defeat in order to date his girlfriend, all drop coins and loot when defeated.

The movie, too, stay true to these influences. In the newly released trailer you’ll see Scott punching someone across the room, while a booming voice announces “K.O.!”

And the video game? Well, it might be a brawler, but it’s a 2D sidescroller. What’s more, the Ubisoft published game will feature pixel art by Paul Robertson, as well as a soundtrack by chiptune band Anamanaguchi. Attract Mode has a gallery up showing us the art of the game.

By the way, I highly recommend you watch the trailer for the movie. I may have a slight bias for both Scott Pilgrim and director Edgar Wright, but this trailer might be one of the best trailers I have watched in years.

    Ugh, Anamanaguchi. Chiptune? Sure. Fun? Sure.

    But they compress the shit out of their tracks making them as loud as possible, and therefore obnoxious. I can’t even make it through a single song. Listening fatigue abounds.

    I am, however, interested to see this game come to life. The trailer makes the movie look fun (aside from the fact that it’s ANOTHER MOVIE STARRING MICHAEL CERA) and the game seems to be coming together well.

    I’m optimistic.

    @Kyle Gaddo, What’s wrong with Michael Cera? He’s a good actor, methinks.
    The trailer makes the movie look pretty awesome and now I have to read the comic.

    @Jens Erik Vaaler, I don’t mind Cera either. And if you wanna read it, I can lend you the volumes. \o/

    @Jens Erik Vaaler,

    I’m just bored of Michael Cera. He’s been in EVERYTHING, and not everything he’s been in has been good.

    @Kyle, Now that I will agree with: he has had a certain, shall we say, upswing in popularity since Juno and Superbad.
