Nomura (vaguely) hints at Dissidia sequel

Dissidia: Final Fantasy seemed like every Final Fantasy fans wet dream. A fighting game featuring the protagonists and antagonists from the 12 numbered games does sound pretty awesome. And it was, garnering a metacritic score of 79/100.

And when games are popular and sell a lot of copies, there’s a high probability of a sequel being made. When asked about a possible Dissidia sequel in a Twitter interview (yes those exist), SqueEnix character designer Tetsuya Nomura had this to say:

“I’ll do my best for a sequel to Dissidia Final Fantasy!”

Note that he said “for a sequel”, hopefully meaning the guy will sell the idea to the Square top brass post haste. Though it does make we ponder which characters would star in a sequel to Dissidia.

    Probably put Lightning in there. She was supposed to make the first game, but she was cut.

    @Kyle Gaddo, But apart from that, who else? Do they ramp up the gameplay, add some new levels and just throw the original characters in or should they add some new ones to the mix as well?

    @Jens Erik Vaaler, Apparently Nomura wants to add Kingdom Hearts characters as well.

    I wouldn’t mind seeing some other characters from the main games either. Playable Vincent Valentine, Faris and Freija? Yes please!

    They could also include characters from spin off Final Fantasy games as well, such as Ramza from Tactics.

    @Jens Erik Vaaler,

    Well, considering this is Final Fantasy Bros. Brawl, they’ll probably bring back all the fan-favorites, the characters that worked, etc. and then add in characters that would like to be seen in the game.

    I dunno, Sabin, Lulu, Auron, Wakka–there are a lot of awesome characters that could make it into a sequel.

    Maybe an appearance by Crono and the gang? Hahaha.

    @Kyle Gaddo, Crono and Frog in Dissidia would be pretty awesome.

    @Jens Erik Vaaler,

    Pretty much anyone but Lucca and Marle would be great. Imagine: Robo, Crono, Magus and Frog in a 3D fighting game?

    Ballin’ as balls.

    I just hope that they balance things out a little more. As it stands right now, once you hit level 100, and you fight against another level 100 player, the game is over in a matter of seconds.

    Case in point, here’s a video I recorded a while back:

    @Joe Pomerening, Cloud has nothing on Squall.
