Miyamoto confirms Pikmin 3

UK’s Official Nintendo Magazine has reported via a short Twitter update that Miyamoto confirmed the production of Pikmin 3 at the BAFTAs. According to Official Nintendo Magazine, Miyamoto claims that development is “well under way”.

See ONM’s Twitter update here.

No word yet on a release date, or even what platforms this will be released on. I’m sure we’ll see a Wii release, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to be a DS game, since the DS seems perfectly capable of playing Pikmin on.

We’ll keep you posted on any Pikmin updates in the upcoming days.

    @Kyle Gaddo It’s a hungry banner, actually.

    I can’t say I’m hyped for it yet, as I’ve still yet to play the first two, though through the powers of emulation I think I have a remedy for that.

    @Norlick, You mean there’s a decent Gamecube emulator that actually works? Do share, please.

    @Joe Pomerening I’m unsure if I’m allowed to just put the link here, but the one I use is called Dolphin, and about 90% of games run perfect in it and at very nice speed.

    @Norlick, Yeah, posting links to emulators probably isn’t the best idea, as they’re technically illegal. Nothing personal, you understand.

    @Norlick No it’s cool, I understand the problems you guys might have if links to emulators started popping up.

    @Norlick, ROMs are completely fair game though. Those are completely legal, as long as they are used for backup purposes.

    @Michael O’Connor, Not necessarily. The ROM or ISO is still copyrighted, and the copyright holder still has the right to legal action if they catch you.

    Emulators aren’t always a copyright infringement. Usually they’re a patent infringement. Older consoles didn’t have much onboard code at all; they were all hardware. Thus, nothing to copy, so no copyright damage.

    These days, emulators are likely to infringe on both a patent and a copyright, however you’d most likely be sued for copyright infringement, as that typically brings in a bit more money.

    EDIT: Of course, that’s only assuming that it’s a ROM/emulator where the patent and copyright are still in effect. Most NES titles are free to share as much as you want these days, and the emulators are 100% legal, as Nintendo’s patent expired a while back.

    @Joe Pomerening Thats some handy info to have, thanks.

    @Kyle Gaddo, Just updated it. Still a bit larger than the rest, but I’ve discovered that finding a decent Pikmin image to work with is more challenging than I first thought. :(
