News is currently circulating that European game retailer GAME is already refusing to trade in recently affected PS3 which were affected by the PSN / PS3 hardware failures which occurred earlier today.

Owners who have been attempting to trade in their “fat” PS3s for the currently-unaffected slim models are apparently being refused, reliable reports have indicated to us. GAME is refusing trade for those consoles at this time.

We have received word directly from consumers regarding this as well.

We’ll keep you informed on any more updates regarding the PS3′s recent problems as we get them.

  1. Man, this is gonna get nasty.

  2. Tony Bradford says:

    Currently there’s now claims this was intentional so people buy slim Ps3s.

    Though I would think there would be a much more, less frustrating way to do so.

  3. Matt says:

    How long until the idiots get hold? Do we still have time to talk about something that’s not related to OMFG 360 OMFG told you so?

    @Matt, You’re safe for now. Most of the fanboys are busy spamming up N4G: http://n4g.com/News-483974.aspx

  4. Tony Bradford says:

    Considering the shocking amount of exposure this has gotten on n4g, i’d say 10 minutes.

  5. Deathbetold says:

    Its been on n4g.com for about 20 minutes

    Just wait until this evening, will be fixed – is a “common” problem on motherboards and embedded systems where the internal clock misjudges leap years.
    History says it will reset itself at midnight and everything will be happy and fine, but we’ll have to see.

    This is nothing to do with the PlayStation Network and is down to the old PS3′s using a chip that has a minor bug in it.

    Tony Bradford   [ 18:07, March 1st, 2010 ]

    @cube, I’d thing it to be something very simple like that.

    Though the panic is palpable. You can feel people getting ‘playstation home-sick”.

    cube   [ 18:09, March 1st, 2010 ]

    @Tony Bradford, I know some retailers who have PS3s disconnected (not ever have been connected) to any network and they are also suffering from the same bug, so it’s clearly a terrible hardware problem.

    Hopefully it will fix itself… otherwise… well, god knows how it will be fixed.

    Tony Bradford   [ 18:17, March 1st, 2010 ]

    @cube, Yeah, we knew of it not being related to PSN, since slims could still connect to it. Connected or not, they still get bricked.

    It’s a mystery.

  7. Not PS3 fanboy says:

    Here it comes. Told you so you fucking Sony fanboys.
    The 360 owners took a lot, and I mean a lot, of shit for the RROD and now it’s happened to you sad cunts.
    Laugh, I nearly cried when I read this. I’m so happy I’m going to crack one off and then go down the pub to celebrate.
    Losers !!!

    ManxGit   [ 20:27, March 1st, 2010 ]

    I hope the pub landlord cracks one off in your pint, then u go home and your 360 makes it’s usual 2000 decibels and rides the RRoD like a skeletal horse through the gates of Hell. Eejit.

  8. Ironic says:

    My brother has a PS3 and he’s on it right now with no issues. We live in the UK tho. Does that matter ?
    He’s not been affected. (well not yet anyway). LOL!!!

    Tony Bradford   [ 19:47, March 1st, 2010 ]

    @Ironic, Do you have a pre-sim ps3 or a fat one?

  9. Ironic says:

    Update:
    He does have the not able to connect issue (8001050F error message) but he’s still able to play games on it.

    Tony Bradford   [ 19:56, March 1st, 2010 ]

    @Ironic, But is it a slim ps3?

    Ironic   [ 20:35, March 1st, 2010 ]

    @Tony Bradford,
    No it’s a fat one. No probs so far and he’s been on it for 1.5 hours now.

    A message to all the frantic article and blog post writers as well as many commenters:

    SERIOUSLY STOP EFFIN OVER-REACTING!

    This has been an issue for not even a day and no official answers have been issued as to what is going on, so stop acting like PS3s are completely bricked. It seems to be a PSN issue anyways, happened to me at almost 6 PM central standard US time which would be close to midnight GMT, pointing towards the calendar theory being correct.

    For trolls: try to contain yourselves. If, and only if, another day or two goes by without solutions, then you can start saying I told you so. Try to keep it together for now.

    Jens Erik Vaaler   [ 21:38, March 1st, 2010 ]

    @RuddigerPez, But it’s not a PSN issue. It’s happening to consoles that haven’t been connected to the PSN.

  11. Kg says:

    It’s working now on my launch PS3 (60gb) :D
