Well, that didn’t take too long. Modern Warfare 2 has only just been released, having had its street date broken, and The Daily Mail is already digging its tabloid claws into it.
One of the most clear criticism from the article is the scene from the first chapter of the game, that allows you to kills innocent civilians if you so choose to.
“Among the most controversial is a situation where the gamer must decide whether to kill unarmed civilians at a Russian airport in order to infiltrate a terrorist group.”
Not surprisingly, the politicians have already come out of the woodwork (in this instance Labour MP Keith Vaz) and promised to save our children from these vile and socially destructive video games…
“I am absolutely shocked by the level of violence in this game and am particularly concerned about how realistic the game itself looks,” Vaz stated, and promised that this would be brought to light in parliament this evening.
Could British politicians be any more out of touch with society? Seriously?

“…and promised to save our children from these vile and socially destructive video games”
It was given a certificate rating of 18 for a reason, children aren’t meant to play it, if they are, then parents really are becoming over ruled by children.
@Alex,
Yeah, you’d *think* that politicians would get that by now, wouldn’t you?
Rated M for Mature. Kids should NEVER play games till they’re mature enough to Know its a VIDEO GAME. GTA anyone?
Dear lord am I sick and tired of hearing about this crap. It’s rated 18 for a reason, and kids shouldn’t be playing it without parental permission. Not all videogames are for kids, how is that so difficult to understand?!

Anything for a bit of publicity. They want to appear to be doing something, so they take on any old issue that they think will give them some kind of popular support.
If people take offense to this game, and don’t similarly take offense to the Saw movies they are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites, to be pitied for their painful level of ignorance.
It is an adult game, dealing with adult issues, rated R 18: For adults.
Why not start banning any book that deals with a plot about terrorism and the ‘good guy’ having to do the lesser of two evils?
I think we should ban children instead of video games. They’re sticky and smell funny and aren’t even NEARLY as interesting or entertaining as most games.
Okay maybe not ban children, but make people take a class and get a certificate to have them. So if you don’t possess enough common sense to keep YOUR children from things that might harm them, you don’t get to have them.
I’m probably 76% joking.
