The console industry is a huge and competitive market, Sony aren’t sitting on their laurels, and they’ve taken the fight to the Bull Ring.

The Bullring Centre in Birmingham, England, is one of the largest shopping centres in Europe. Imagine our surprise when we pop into the centre, only to see Sony had come out in full force to promote the PlayStation name to the public, with a truly impressive display.

The giant PlayStation logo above was only the start.

Setting up an impressive booth inside the shopping centre, Sony invited people in (us included) with the lure of previews of games that haven’t even been released yet, such as Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Ratchet and Clank 3, and upcoming Singstar titles.

Gaming wasn’t the only think at the booth of course, in line with Sony’s image of the PS3 as a multi-format device. The iPlayer and VidZone, unique to the UK and Europe, were also on display.

Sony also surveyed people about their current gaming habits, asking them why they do / don’t own a PlayStation, and taking their details for future reference. Definitely a smart to get to know your consumer base, and find out ways to sell your product to more people.
