Gotta love them analysts. Speaking with Gamasutra recently, Cowen Group analyst Doug Creutz believes that this holiday season will be a hard one for Nintendo, and that Sony will be the one to come out on top this holiday season.
According to Creutz, Wii gamers (wait, those actually exist?!) are holding off on game purchases this year. His conclusion? “The Wii bubble could be deflating.”
“While we believe the Wii is likely to be a drag on overall software sales through the holiday, the impact should be limited to those publishers which have invested significantly in Wii development, with the biggest negative impact likely to be felt by Electronic Arts, which (unwisely in our view) heavily invested in Wii development for [calendar 2009].”
Who do you think will come out on top this holiday season, fine gamers?

As for the Wii gaming library, I think there is far too much shovelware out there compared to the selections of the other consoles. Finally developers are realizing that this may not be all that of a “revolution”. Heck, only my parents play on the Wii on a daily basis because I bought Wii Sports Resort for them. There are some innovative games on the Wii, but not enough to beat out the PS3 and Xbox360. Myself, the only game I plan to buy during the winter is Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All Stars, because I like fighting games and it’s only exclusive to the Wii.

According to Vgchartz the Wii sold nearly 800K world wide for the week ending on Nov 28th. the next closest console was the PS3 with 400K. Even if the Wii’s bubble is deflating it still managed to outsell its nearest competitor 2 to 1 Black Friday week. The Wii only has 2 more years left in its planned lifecycle I doubt either competitor will catch them by then. If Nintendo stopped selling the Wii after this Xmas it would take years for the other consoles just to catch up. The PS3 is 30 million down and the 360 needs to sell another 24 million just to catch up.

As for lifetime software sales the Wii still wins. According to vgchartz the Wii has sold over 364 million titles while the 360 has only managed to sell 284 million titles (with a year head start). Many people say Wii Sports doesn’t count because it’s bundled “free” everywhere (but Japan). I would agree except Nintendo charges $22.50 + shp to replace lost or broken Sports discs so obviously Nintendo doesn’t consider it free.
