Though Nintendo’s E3 press conference was incredibly dull, it did end on a high note. According to Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo was still aiming to please their core audiences, and had teamed up with a developer of mature titles to bring a new spin to one of Sony’s key franchises.
Nintendo has been working with Team Ninja, of all people, to bring us a new Metroid game, subtitled “Other M”. A gameplay trailer, as well as some incredibly looking cinematics showed Samus Aran running, fighting and blasting her way through various planets. Interestingly, the game seems to use both first and third person gameplay. Various shots were shown through Samus’ visor, while other combat situations had the camera placed outside Samus’ suit.
The graphics looked slick and the entire game ran smoothly on the Wii’s hardware. There was also voice acting to be heard, not only from NPCs, but also from Samus herself.
Metroid: Other M is scheduled for a 2010 release
