According to a recent IGN report, Warner Bros. has successfully overturned F.E.A.R. 2’s ban in Australia by the OFLC, and the title will now see release in February with a MA15+ rating in the region.
Warner appealed against the ban recently by submitting the game straight to the Australian Classification Review Board, who kindly agreed to release the game with no cuts to its content.
One would almost think the OFLC was over-zealous and heavy-handed.
PERISH THE THOUGHT!

I’m glad to see that there is a federal body that slapped down the OFLC. God damn my General Attorney for not voting with the national consensus for an R ratings for games.

@Shad, Why *is* the OFLC so moronic, anyway?

@Michael O’Connor,
The OFLC have got a mandate to go through material and check it against it codes and standards, which are open to interpretation. The problem here is the panel that they get to review each game is inconsistent and sometimes isn’t a good demographic cross section.
They have petitioned the government many times to add an R rating to bring video game ratings in line with film, however that requires a unanimous Yes vote from all of the state and federal General Attourneys. The last time this issue was raised the Federal Government and the state attorneys were in accord to add an R rating bar one; mine.
He had the ‘genious’ idea that it would make the games more easily available to minors because at the moment none of those Refused Classification games come in and have to be imported; a method beyond the means of most ‘vulnerable kiddies’
However the government should be well within it’s rights to put the onus onto the parents to ensure that R rated content does not make it’s way into the hands of minors.
