Games and Goblins returns for its second (most frustrating) episode. The game this week is Megaman 9 on Xbox 360. Keiji Inafune returns to the original Megaman series to bring us one of the hardest games you’ll ever play.

Megaman 9 follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, requiring trial and error and repeated play to learn patterns. That being said, you get to see the frustration most will experience on their first time through. Sadly we couldn’t even make it past the mini-bosses.

It may not seem it from watching, but Megaman 9 firmly earns it place somewhere in the hardest games of all time list. If beating the game wasn’t enough the in game achievements are pure torture to complete.

If you are ready to truly test your metal as a hardcore gamer, pick up Megaman 9 on the WiiWare Channel, PSN, and the XBLA.

Mirror's Edge demo on PSN and Xbox Live

I’m trying my hardest to compose myself as I write this… the Mirror’s Edge demo has just gone up on the PlayStation store, and will be up on the Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow.

The demo level basically takes you through a tutorial of the game’s mechanics, and teaches you how to make the best of your free-running abilities. One thing is for certain… it’s definately a game of skill, but the sense of achievement when you start learning to run without slowing down, keeping your pace, and jumping the rooftops at breathtaking speed and without pause, is the most exhilarating sensation you could ever experience in a video game.

Can you tell I’m excited?

If you haven’t downloaded the demo yet… get up off your butt and do so! Then come back here as fast as your legs can carry you, and let us know what you think!

Harmonix working on Beatles game

MTV, Apple Corps and Harmonix have just announced that they’re hard at work on a brand new music game that will centre around The Beatles’ illustrious and world famous music.

There’s no name for the game just yet, but the title will take gamers and Beatles fans on a journey through the band’s music, and has been given the blessing of the band’s surviving members, Richard Starkey and Paul McCartney.

The Beatles project will be entirely seperate from the Rock Band franchise, and its system will be built from the ground up, Rigopulos confirmed. A focus on strong visual imagery is planned, but there was little other detail on the project announced, not even a format for the titles, but the PS3 and 360 seem like a sure bet.

A release date of Christmas 2009 has been mooted, but nothing has been confirmed.

We’ll be keeping you updated as we find out more.

Gears of War movie will be “gritty” and “real”

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On October - 30 - 2008

We're just big men with big feellings...

Screenwriter Chris Morgan has recently discussed the Gears of War movie with the press, and has indicated that he want the film to be a “gritty” and “real” representation of the games, but that “fun lines” will keep things light throughout.

“I can’t write a joke to save my life, but I can, at the right moment, tap into the human thing that comes in when you’re in a foxhole and things are raining down,” said Morgan.

“I think you will definitely have those fun moments, those fun lines and moments between the two. But by and large, I think it will be gritty and real.

Morgan also added that he “want to write and play it as though it happened today. Look outside at your city and imagine that the locust started rising – that’s how I want it to feel.”

The film will be mostly live action, but with computer effects for “the big stuff”, and certain Locust scenes.

A news Elder Scrolls game has always been a big deal amongst western RPG fans, so it’s time to rejoice, Bethesda announced today that it’s likely to publish a new Elder Scrolls game in 2010.

“At the moment we’ve got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there’s a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010,” stated Bethesda publishing executive Paul Oughton to the press today.

Price is “not an issue” says Sony

Price is not an issue says Sony

Despite the growing customer cash conservation because of the economic woes right now, Sony says the price is right for the PS3. While the Wii is going for $250 and the 360 is selling for $200 Sony will be sticking with its $400 price tag through the holiday season.

Their explanation? As stated by Sony managing director, Ray Maguire “We have a business to run and we have to make sure we’re doing the right thing for shareholders…”

What about what’s right for customers?

Sony are depending on titles to help make the sales this holiday season which they say will make the higher price tag not a “issue at all.”. Along with that, the integrated Wi-Fi and the Blu-ray player Sony feels they’ll stay “absolutely on target” even during a Christmas crunch that looks to be less than stellar.

We’ll see how the numbers tally in the coming months.

World of Warcraft passes 11 million subscribers

Posted by Dawn Wilkins On October - 29 - 2008
Even before the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, World of Warcraft is showing how successful it is.

Blizzard just mentioned that this morning they reached 11 million subscribers and this number was reached while the expansion was in beta testing. There’s no doubt it’ll climb once the much-anticipated expansion is released. It’s still scheduled for a 13th of November release.

WoW is not new to success. It won best-selling PC game in 2005 and 2006 and its first expansion, The Burning Crusade became the fastest selling PC game of 2007, selling 2.4 million copies in just 24 hours, and million copies in a single hour.

The sales team must have had a field day.

CEO and co-founder of Blizzard, Mike Morhaime says that they are “..fully committed to responding to that enthusiasm with a high-quality constantly evolving gaming experience.” Mike has every reason to want to keep his customers pleased, what with cash that this MMORPG is raking in.

The US PS Blog has just be updated with a post by MotorStorm: Pacific Rift director Nigel Kershaw, who has announced that the development team on the game, Evolution will be aiming to provide downloadable content for the game on a week basis… and a large amount of it will presumable be free.

“We’ve got a pile of stuff waiting in the wings, and, you’ll be glad to know, a lot of it is free. We’re going to try and give you something new to play with every week, and we’ve also got some major packs in development that should be on the store after Christmas.”

Xbox 360 Avatar Store coming next spring

Europe, Middle East and African Xbox Live product manager Robin Burrowes, has confirmed to the press today that an online store for “Avatars” on the Xbox 360 will launching next spring.

“The plan of record will be to launch a more extensive Avatar Store from spring time onwards next year, and that store in theory would have branded content in there, game publisher IP stuff in there as well,” said Burrowes.

So, what kinda content should we expect in the “Avatar Store” then?

“Yes, more animations, more customise capabilities in terms of emotions and features but then also as well wardrobe enhancements over the course of time, so fashion brands hopefully launching new ranges through Avatars being one route. Obviously the whole world of Spore, football, etc, lends itself to this environment. Games themselves where you can customise your Avatar like the character from a game as well, these are all possibilities that Avatars will explore over the course of 2009 and beyond, definitely.”

Pricing is currently “under discussion”

So, how would you payto have your avatar look like Dante, Master Chief or Chun-Li?

Lionhead’s Studios’ secret game to be announced “early next year”

Lionhead Studio' secret project

With Fable 2 finally out on the shelves and gamers the world over enjoying the charming sights and sounds of Albion, Lionhead Studios is looking to the future; a future we may be finding out about sooner than we thought.

Speaking to the press at the Eurogamer Expo earlier today, a Lionhead representative mentioned that Peter Molyneux secret project, which the man himself is quite excited about already, will be announced “early next year”.

If the project – codenamed “Dimitri” – lives up to the supposed hype, it looks like it’ll end up being something quite unique, but then, that’s what makes Molyneux’s work stand out from the crowd. Molyneux is certainly enthusiastic about it

“And then it moved from that experiment to a moment in time that happened six months ago when a discovery was made, and this discovery has been so exciting that it has lead to Lionhead focusing on it and sculpting a game around that. I think that discovery is so significant. This discovery has lead us to start a game and that game will be on the front cover of Nature magazines and Science magazines.”

We’ll be keeping you updated on this one, we can guarantee you that.
